House Republicans meet privately to discuss a way forward to elect a new Speaker, but some Members of Congress emerge telling reporters the path is not clear, and they are still divided over who should wield the gavel.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), who has been nominated for Speaker by a majority of House Republicans, needs the votes of virtually all of them to be elected in a full House vote.
And about two dozen by some counts say they will not vote for him.
