Forget handbags, next big thing in fakes is luxury cars

A father-and-son team in Brazil has been arrested after police busted them making and selling fake luxury cars.

The pair were operating a clandestine factory, rolling out fake Ferraris and sham Lamborghinis, selling them on social media for between $US45,000 and $US60,000 – a fraction of the cost of a real one.

Upon raiding the location in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, police found eight vehicles in various stages of construction, but it’s not known how many have been made and sold.

Police were tipped off to the operation by the Italian car manufacturers.

Fake cars are a big market in Brazil,  but this family team are thought to be the biggest fish in the country’s pond.
