Ceasefire: Former Speaker McCarthy on Health Care & Government Shutdown

Former Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on health care debate: "Republicans, having the majority, should have planned further in advance instead of the last weeks of the year to see 'how am I going to deal with this.' So now they've got a kind of political football. Remember what happened in the House, the Democrats did shut the government down...but the Senate kept working. The House sent everybody away. When you only have a majority for two years...you just lost two months."

Dasha Burns: "Was it a mistake for Johnson to send the House home?"

McCarthy: "Everybody governs the floor differently...The House you have the power as the Speaker and the majority. If you give that power away you may look at the end of the day, 'I gave two months. Maybe the Democrats won the shutdown of those two months just by not letting us work. How many other bills could we have passed?"
