Washington Today (10-26-23): Speaker Mike Johnson & VP Kamala Harris react to Maine mass shooting

Gov. Janet Mills (D-ME) says at least 18 people were killed and 13 injured in Wednesday night's mass shooting Lewiston, and the search for the suspect continue, with shelter-in-place advisories for several areas.

Gov. Mills says, "This city did not deserve this terrible assault on its citizens, on its peace of mind, on its sense of security."

We also hear from Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Both the Senate party leaders talk about their conversations with newly elected Speaker Johnson, as the Congress considers major issues including government, and aid to Israel and Ukraine.

Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing on how Hamas is financed, including through cryptocurrency. We will talk about it with Sarah Wynn, a reporter with The Block.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) pleads guilty in DC court to a misdemeanor for pulling a fire alarm in a Congressional building when there was no emergency. He tells reporters outside it was a mistake, and he thought it would help him open a door and get to a vote on the House floor faster.
