Washington Today (11-21-23): President Biden says deal to release some Hamas hostages 'very close'

President Joe Biden says "we're now very close" to a deal that will see Hamas release hostages it has held since its deadly attack on Israel in October, and in exchange, Israel will release up to three times as many Palestinians it is holding and pausing its military operations against Hamas in Gaza.

President Biden holds a White House meeting on combatting fentanyl, following up on his meeting last week with the Presidents of China and Mexico, and asking Congress to approve more funding and strengthen laws to prevent fentanyl trafficking.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announces the founder of Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world, will step down as CEO and plead guilty to a felony charge of money laundering, and that the company will pay a $4.3 billion fine, which the Attorney General says is “one of the largest penalties we have ever obtained.”

The tradition started with ancient Olympic Games in Greece to allow athletes and spectators to safely travel to the games. Today the resolution is a more general call for peace, with the hope that the spirit of friendly athletic competition can help reach that goal.
