Washington Today (11-25-23): Pres. Biden meets with Chinese Pres. Xi, says 'we made real progress'

President Joe Biden meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference in California.

President Biden says, “We have to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict. Critical global challenges we face, from climate change to counternarcotics to artificial intelligence, demand our joint efforts."

President Xi says, “For two large countries like China and the United States, turning their back on each other is not an option. “Planet earth is big enough for the two countries to succeed."

U.S. House starts its Thanksgiving recess early after 19 Republicans vote 'no' on a procedural vote that would have allowed debate on one of the 12 annual spending bills. This is not the first time this has happened this year with the narrow House Republican majority.
The Senate starts work on the temporary full-government funding extension that the House has already passed.
