Washington Today (5-10-23): U.S. to limit migrant asylum claims as Title 42 COVID restrictions end

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas presents new, tighter rules for when immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border may claim asylum, part of the Biden Administration plan to handle the wave of migrants anticipated starting Thursday when Title 42, the tool that has been used to turn back migrants on COVID-19 pandemic-preventing-grounds expires.

Rep. George Santos (R-NY) pleads not guilty to 13 federal charges of fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds and making false statements. He is accused of stealing COVID-19 unemployment benefits and raising money supposedly for his election campaign, but kept for himself.
