Washington Today (8-16-23): POTUS calls Inflation Reduction Act 'transformative' on its anniversary

President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats celebrate the anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, a law that sought to promote clean energy and address climate change, and reduce health care costs.

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell with an update on the recovery efforts after the wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, including the search for the missing, which ends too often in recovery of their remains. She also talks about aid for the survivors and President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden's visit to Maui next week.

Republican President candidate Mike Pence, a former vice president, responds for the first time to the latest indictment in Georgia of another candidate, former President Donald Trump, saying, "the Georgia election was not stolen."

State Department is asked about North Korea's statement on U.S. soldier Travis King, confirming he crossed the border from South Korea into North Korea and claiming he was escaping "inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination within the U.S. Army."

And a preview of Friday's summit with President Biden and the leaders of South Korea and Japan at the Camp David U.S. presidential retreat in Maryland from White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby.
