WATCH: The Costly F1 Moment Between Pierre Gasly & Lance Stroll That Flew Under the Radar at Spanish GP

The Spanish Grand Prix was full of incidents that made the racing on the track super exciting. But there were several incidents that were not as talked about as they should have been. There was a collision between the Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll, and the AlphaTauri driver, Pierre Gasly, in the latter half of the race.

Both drivers were fighting for positions and were outside the points, but it did not stop them from racing against each other. In the end, the battle between them ended badly as Stroll collided with Gasly in Turn 1 and was sent spinning.

They did not show this during the race wtf. This the first time I have seen it. Icl switch roles and people would be going for Strolls throat for this.

Interestingly, the incident Gasly got a 5-second penalty and also added two penalty points to his license.

The stewards found that the AlphaTauri driver was guilty of the collision and stated, “Stroll was fully alongside on the outside of Gasly from turn-in to the apex, and gave Gasly sufficient room. Gasly understeered into Stroll and the stewards found him wholly at fault for the collision, although the collision was more due to a lack of grip.”

Pierre Gasly takes full responsibility for his collision with Lance Stroll

The French driver was a bit hesitant to accept the decision initially, but later took responsibility for the collision. Pierre Gasly called the whole incident “hard racing” between him and the Canadian driver.

“It was hard racing, there was [a] small contact, but I take the responsibility if this deserves a five-second penalty,” said the AlphaTauri driver.

With two points added to his license, it takes his total to four penalty points. It was a pretty ominous race for both him and Stroll. Besides, they came together, as they both weren’t showcased a lot on the TV screens.

The incident though proved more costly for stroll, who was making a charge up the field after his pit stop. Maybe he could have gotten into points-scoring positions if he didn’t collide with Gasly. He would have been around the same vicinity as his teammate’s finish in P11.

Hopefully, both Pierre and Lance can bounce back at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. They need to start scoring points frequently to salvage the poor start of the season.
