The first Lead Inspector General report to Congress on Operation Epic Fury, released 14 September 2026, reports a Department of War cost estimate of $33.4 billion as of 29 June: $22.3 billion in expended munitions, $7.4 billion in obligations and $3.7 billion in equipment losses. The Pentagon’s acquisition office said munitions spending ‘resulted in strategic inventory shortfalls.’ The same report records $25.32 billion in emergency arms sales to Gulf partners certified as having ‘no adverse impact’ on U.S. readiness, and states that the inspectors did not verify or audit agency figures.
